SUMMARY OF THE BOOK: "Our school, our school!"This is how a group of Roma children called the small classroom that we used to give them lessons in reading and writing. Just one of them went to a regular school, but they were all eager to learn. Why did they not follow regular education? In Albania, Roma children are supposed to follow mainstream education. But the enrollment rates are low, and the drop-out rates very high. What are the reasons and stories behind these figures? What are possible solutions? In this book I try to answer these questions by using field research done by the World Bank and UNDP and describing literature on the Roma, illustrated by small anecdotes from our education project in a town in Southern Albania.
